Dear Alumni and Friends of Wayne Wrestling,

Please join us on Thursday, May 27th as we dedicate the newly remodeled wrestling room at Wayne Middle School. The Wayne Wrestling Booster Club has made possible the creation of a Wall of Fame as the centerpiece of the upgrading of the training facility used by our entire wrestling program. We would like to have you as a guest of the booster club as we honor the tradition of excellence that is embodied in our wrestling program by dedicating the room to all of the past and current wrestlers of the program.

As you may realize, the Wayne Wrestling Booster Club continues to play an important role in the promotion and support of our wrestling team and its’ wrestlers. The booster club supports the pursuit of excellence in many ways, including paying for lodging as the team travels during the season. Please consider sponsoring a particular member of the Wall of Fame as a tribute to the commitment of that individual to our program and to the role the wrestling program has played in the development of countless young men.

We will also take the opportunity to celebrate several milestones in the history of the program, including:

*The 2009 -2010 season, which saw Wayne place 4th in the large school team standings at the New York State tournament. The post season saw tremendous success with Tory Cain (6th), Bob Dierna (4th),Vinny Digravio (3rd) placing at the New York State tournament and Al Dierna becoming Wayne’s 5th New York State Champion!

*Bob Dierna became the third NHSCA champion in the programs’ history by capturing the Junior Division crown in Virginia Beach, Virginia in March.

*Four time NCAA qualifier and All-American Josh Patterson completes his record setting career at SUNY Binghamton and will become Wayne’s first Division 1 wrestling coach when he joins Bucknell University as an assistant coach next fall.

*The contributions of Mr. Ted Hargarther to the wrestling program, including his career as a wrestler and as a coach.

April 18, 2010
By now most of us have received an email from Coach Hargarther advising us of his decision to step down as Assistant Varsity Coach.
Coach Hargarther a former wrestler for Wayne has held the assistants job for 27 years.
Coach Hargarther has been recognized by the Section V Wrestling community for his dedication to the sport of wrestling by being selected as the 2003 recipient of the Terry Robert Justice Memorial Award. Awards Photo
On June 7, 2005 The Wayne Wrestling Booster Club recognized Teddy's 25 years of service to Wayne Wrestling with gift of silver plated wrestling shoes.

On behalf of all us who have been involved with Wayne Wrestling and especially the parents and wrestlers who you have helped to shape into fine young men, thank you for all you have done.

ANNOUNCEMENT!
Wayne Wrestling was well represented at the NHSCA National Wrestling Tournament last week in Virginia Beach, Virginia with Wayne Wrestler Bobby Dierna becoming Wayne’s 2010 ALL-AMERICAN in the Junior Division @ 130 lb weight class. The championship match was a close one as he wrestled Jordan Rinken of Iowa to defeat him 2-1.
When you see Bobby Dierna, please congratulate him for this great accomplishment.
The 2010 Wayne Wrestling Team had another GREAT 2009-2010 season as we finished in 2nd at the Class “A” Sectional Tournament and advancing 10 wrestlers to the State Qualifier Tournament at RIT on Feb 12 & 13.
At the end, Wayne had 7 place finishers with 4 advancing to the State Tournament on Feb 26 & 27:
Alec Dierna – 1st (Advanced to State Competition)
Bobby Dierna – 1st (Advanced to State Competition)
Vinny DiGravio – 1st (Advanced to State Competition)
Tory Cain – 2nd (Advanced to State Competition)
Nick DiGravio – 2nd
Frankie Affronti – 3rd
Brad Mayville – 6th

Results of the NYS Wrestling Tournament in Albany NY:
Alec Dierna – 1st Place 2010 NYS Champion, Section V Most Outstanding Wrestler
Bobby Dierna – 4th Place
Tory Cain – 6th Place
Vinny DiGravio – 3rd Place

What an accomplishment to have ALL 4 WRESTLERS PLACE IN THE NYS TOURNAMENT and to have the WAYNE WRESTLING TEAM PLACING 4th at the NYS Wrestling Tournament out of all the high schools that attended!!!
This was a bunch of competitive kids that turned into more than just team mates – they practiced hard, fought hard, and stuck together – even when things got tough and has shown great sportsmanship throughout the season and beyond. Every wrestler should be very proud of the season they accomplished, with the tough competition and the drive to improve themselves after every win and loss.
Can’t wait until next season – going to be exciting!!! A lot of great returning wrestlers and new one’s that will carry on this great tradition at Wayne!
Thank you,
Wayne Wrestling Booster Club

Just want to let everyone know that Josh Patterson was the MOW in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament this past weekend. Josh has now qualified for the NCAA tournament 4 times and is  a returning All-American at 174. He defeated a wrestler (16 – 6) from George Mason who had defeated him a few weeks ago;  the guy made one mistake…………………he tried to rough Josh up….and it backfired! Congratulations to Josh (and his parents) and good luck at nationals!
